FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - A Munich court said it is 'technically not possible' to ban Internet sports betting, ending an eight-month dispute between the state of Bavaria and Austrian sports betting firm BWIN Interactive Entertainment AG.

The state of Bavaria in September said three Internet sports betting companies including BWIN were no longer allowed to accept wagers in the state, saying that sports betting that is not administered by the state-run lottery authority is illegal in the state. But it is technically impossible to exclude only gamblers residing in Bavaria from using the company's online offers, the Bavarian administrative court said in a statement today.

And the state of Bavaria 'did not show a single comprehensible and convincing way that sports betting companies can technically implement the ban,' it said.
